HISTORIA

BodegasThe first knowledge of vineyard cultivation goes back to the II century BD. in the form of residues of wine found in anphorae that already showed an active commerce around this product. In the year 1120, the wine cultivation took a significant relevance in the area. due to the importance of wine in the Christian culture in the Middle Ages and the proximity of the Monastery of Veruela. This proximity was critical in the development of vinesyards. and in 1453 the town of Ainzón with all it> pastures, waters and desirable vines was added to the monastery's possessions. Among old manuscripts found found from that time, there is plenty of information about the presence of vineyards.
In 1652. vineyard cultivation took a prominent place in Ainzón's economy that has prevailed until the present days.
The lands of Crianzas y Viñedos Santo Cristo, S. Coop. have a continental climate. influenced by the Atlantic ocean in winter, causing a cold and dry typical North-western wind known in the region as "Cierco", and by the Mediterranean in summer. The soil that prevails is brown-calcareous and terraced. with medium levels of stones, good drainage. fair levels of organic matter and rich in nutrients. Next to the Moncayo. the soil is clay-ferrous and much more stony. In general, this peculiar soil and climate give our wines a special character.

Some remains of an amphora are discovered, this fact proves an activ commercial interchange around the wine.
Year 1120
Strong increase of the grapewine plantation, due to thts kind of farming do not need animals of farmland.
Year 1453
The monastery of Veruela buyes the vineyard of Ainzón. for 10.000 florins. an important amount.
Year 1676
The abbot Fray Martín de Vera favours the increase of flew grapevine plantations.
XIX Century
The crisis of the french vineyards, due to the phylloxera, favours the production of the area. All the lands are dedicated to grapewine farming. The recuperation of the french vineyards brought a strong crisis to all the Ainzón area.
XX Century
RECUPERATION: In this moment the recuperation of the winegrowing production has been constant, thanks to the perseverance of our people. The D.O. "Campo de Boria", whose Regulating Council has its seat in Aiazón, has placated the introduction of new varieties. The Denomination has also made posible an improvement in the production and elaboration systems. This fact has allowed the obtaining of high-quality wines, which quality is being recognized in all the worldwide.
