Small grained Muscat and Moorish Muscat (in French, Muscat blanc à petits grains) is a white wine grape muscat family member of the Vitis vinifera. It is known by a variety of local names such as Muscat Blanc, Muscat Canelli, Moscato Bianco, Muscat de Frontignan, Muscat de Lunel, Muscat d’Alsace, Muskateller, Moscatel Rosé and Sárgamuskotály. While technically a white grape, there are varieties of small grain muscat that produce berries that are pink or reddish brown. The same vine berries can potentially produce a color one year and a different color the next one. These varieties are most prevalent in Australia, where the grape is also known as Brown Frontignac and Muscat. The variety muskadel South Africa tends to show the same property a little darker.
